Barb over at Creative Barbwire did a post about ten things to see before dying and, well, I thought it was a fun and interesting post. Instead of a Bucket List (which I do hope to make one of these days – should probably get on that…) I thought I’d comprise a list of ten things I would like to see before kicking that oft-referenced bucket as well as ten things I have seen that I would highly recommend others to see.
Ten Things I Want to See:
1. Alaska
Galapagos Islands
2. Galapagos Islands
3. China
4. Australia
5. New Zealand (particularly where Hobbiton was constructed for LoTR)
6. Western US – if there are still wild Mustangs I really, really, really want to see them.
7. The Serenghetti
8. An opera at The Metropolitan Opera House
Big Kitties
9. Big Cats (in the wild)
10. Hong Kong
Ten amazing things I have seen (that I totally recommend)

1. Paris at Christmas time. It has to be one of the most beautiful sites to behold.
2. Tulips at the Delph in the Netherlands
3. Sunrise in the Caribbean (or sunset- both are worth seeing)
4. Appalachian Trail
5. Field of bluebonnets in Texas. ”]
6. Bryant Park, NYC in the spring time.
7. Epcot Center (Disney World) – they do wine tastings in the countries!!!
8. The Adirondacks
9. Geneva – Totally recommend a train ride from Paris to Geneva. Beautiful scenery.

The blue bonnets in Texas are wonderful and Vietnam Vet memorial is moving. Looking for the extraordinary in the ordinary is also fulfilling. Have a great day. Martha

Martha – Couldn’t agree more. Fields of flowers, mountains, lakes smooth and undisturbed in the crisp morning of autumn… All provide a warmth to the soul.

I saw the wild mustang in Wyoming/Montana this year… beautiful indeed! We took a guided tour from Cody and found 20-25 of them in the wild… awesome! AND I lived in Geneva for 5 years as a tween! 😀
These lists could be neverending…

I envy you that trip to Montana/Wyoming, Barb! Geneva is a beautiful city. A wonderfully modern place (more so than Paris) in most aspects. Heck, even some of the cobblestone sidewalks have those wonderful words emblazoned upon them!

Jan – No idea. In my youth I would have wanted to see Wozzeck by Berg, but am now thinking I’d prefer something else. Perhaps Tristan und Isolde. As much as I hated Wagner, his music is absolutely breathtaking.

Great lists!
Texas Bluebonnets are gorgeous. And wild mustangs are so thrilling they give me goosebumps. One day I want to go to Europe. When you go west to see the mustangs, make sure you visit Lake Tahoe. Absolutely breathtaking.

Carol – Oooooh, Lake Tahoe is definitely something I’d like to see as well. Someday I hope to make a trip with the family where we can do it all at the same time. Perhaps along with a trip to Yosemite. 🙂

You have some really interesting choices on the list, being from the UK myself many of them are new to me. One with have in common is New Zealand I would love to go. One of my friends has been and she visited the farm where the Hobbiton set was created…I know I am so jealous too! Even funnier though is that her surname is Jackson…..and her brother is called Peter… unfortunately no he isn’t the director by the same name but still very cool.

Ooh, several things on your list that I’d like to see, like Australia…bluebonnets in Texas look wonderful, too. I also want to go to NYC, preferably in the fall. I loved Boston in the autumn season in that long-ago time (back in the eighties) when I went there on a business trip, stayed the weekend, and fell in love. More about that another time! LOL
Think I’ll create my own ten things and do my own post. Thanks for the idea!

Laurel – I look forward to seeing your list! NYC is beautiful and quite the violent jolt at times. I get leery of going there near Christmas time as the traffic, which is always horrible, gets somehow worse. Still, I’ve always wanted to see Rockefeller Center all done up for the holidays. Boston is indeed beautiful. Glad you had the opportunity to see that one during the best season to be in New England. 🙂

Okay, I definitely want to do everything on your to-see list. If I had the money, I would just travel. Maybe I’d stop at home and rest up occasionally, but traveling would be at the top of my list.

Okay, so now I want a cheetah. Aren’t they amazing? Very interesting list! My BIGGIE is my dream tour all the way around the Medeterrenean… But Rio de Janero and Angel Falls (Venezuela) and the Incan ruins all put a South American venture on the list, too.

Hart – Lol! They’re beautiful creatures! Oh, my. I always forget about the Mediterranean when considering places I want to see. Rio and Angel Falls are also somewhere on my list. Heard through an anthropologist friend of the family that each level toward the falls is an ecosystem unto itself (or something like that).

Joy – The more comments I read the more I realize I could add so many more things to this list. Yes, Giza is definitely a place I want to visit, too. I was only a little girl when I saw the tulips, but I do recall how amazing that sea of flowers was.

My wife is from Ecuador and she has never been to the Galapagos and has absolutely no interest in going. I’m a U.S. sort of guy myself and never tire of what this country has to offer. I love taking my wife to places in the U.S.–she loves this country so much.

Wonderful! What I’d most like, rather than seeing anything specific, is to spend a year in the States and another year in France. I lived in France once and it was quite an experience. Living in a place you really get to know it and I love that feeling of being a native rather than a tourist (this is because I am not a very good tourist!).

litlove – So very true! When I was but a preschooler we lived in the Netherlands (Rotterdam, I think) and still recall bits and pieces of that life over there. Granted I wasn’t at the age to fully appreciate the cultural differences (their Santa Claus tradition was something I loved as a child), but some things still stick out. Ah, to live in France… What a wonderful thing to experience!
